Representatives of the Bulgarian Basic Industry organized within the Bulgarian Presidency of the EU Council an event of high importance for the development of European industry

The Bulgarian Association of Metallurgical Industry (BAMI), the Bulgarian Chamber of Chemical Industry (BCCI) and the Bulgarian Federation of Industrial Energy Consumers (BFIEC) organized one of the most important events for the industry within the framework of the Presidency - the Conference "Innovation for Competitiveness. The Basic Industries – a Drive for Growth".

The MS delegations participating the Informal meeting of the Competitiveness Council (February 1, 2018) participated the Conference as well as representatives of the EC, members of Parliament, business representatives.

The conference was opened by Mr. Emil Karanikolov, Minister for Economy and Mr. Eric Mamer -  EC Director for Competitiveness and European Semester. Presentations made CEOs of CEFIC, of the European Association for Steel (Eurofer), of the European Association of Non-ferrous Metals (Eurometaux) and of the International Federation of Industrial Energy Consumers (IFIEC).

The topics of the conference were dedicated to the EU policies and align with the priorities of the Bulgarian Presidency, with impact on the competitiveness of the industry:

- Digital economy, high-tech processes and value chains;

- Circular economy, investment in new products and sustainable development;

Leading Bulgarian companies presented top achievements and best practices in the production of ferrous and non-ferrous metals and chemical products.

The conference concluded with a final document, which will be presented as a basis for discussions on industrial policy during the Informal meeting of the Council on Competitiveness.
